"GOD BLESS AMERICA," ITS ORIGIN AND FIRST PUBLIC SINGING BY KATE SMITH, 1940

This was sent to me by a friend, and I thought it was appropriate to reflect upon in today's world of political correctness and the constant push to remove God from everything in American society.  There are parallels with today, economic depression, upheaval, hardship, worry, afraid of what the next day will bring.  Here's the story of how "God Bless America" came to be.  Read the story before watching the video.  

Below is a video showing the very first public singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA" But before you  watch, you should also know the story of the song.

The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression.  Hitler was taking over Europe and Americans were afraid we'd have to go to war.  It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans. This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their

radios in the evenings,  listening to their favorite entertainers, and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith. Kate was also large in size, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, "Ain't over till the fat lady sings".  Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time.

Kate was also very patriotic.  It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring.  She had hope for America , and faith in her fellow Americans.  She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (who also wrote "White Christmas") and asked him to write a song  that would make Americans feel good again about their  country.

When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her.  He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way  back in 1917.   He gave it to Kate Smith and she worked on it with her studio orchestra.  She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from God Bless America .  Any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America.  Over the years, the Boy Scouts have  received millions and millions of dollars in royalties from this song.

This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience.  She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing.  After the first couple of verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, "You're In The  Army Now."  At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor  in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper.  It is Ronald Reagan.

Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing "God Bless America "  on the radio, they all pretended to have dust in their eyes  as they wiped away a tear or two.

To this day, God Bless America stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country.  Back in 1940, when Kate Smith went  looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt she realized just how successful the  results would be for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry, and for many generations of Americans to follow.  Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you will enjoy it and treasure  it even more.

MUSLIM TERRORIST CAMPS ALIVE AND THRIVING IN U.S.

Here's a video from 2 years ago showing Muslim training camps on American soil. Since this was made public our government has done nothing to investigate it or stop it. But last spring Eric Holder's Justice Department raided Christian Militia camps in Michigan and arrested a bunch of radicals. Yes, persons arrested in the Christian camp raids were dangerous. But no more so than Muslims involved in the Muslim training camps depicted in this video. This really is No Joke. If these Muslim camps were "American" militias they'd all be arrested and shut down. But Holder's position is that they are Muslims and are protected by the Constitution.

Our government is letting these camps exist either through incompetence, deliberate stupidity, or slavish devotion to political correctness. But Rep. Peter King (R-NY), House Homeland Security Committee, is going to be holding hearings on the home-grown Muslim radical terrorist threat in America. Sure hope he doesn't let the PC Crowd shut him down. Makes no sense that Muslims can get away with this but if I ran a terrorist camp I'd be arrested.

NATIONAL PROGRESSIVE RADIO HAS FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE!

NPR (National Public Radio), a tax payer backed media outlet, has finally shown their true colors when they FIRED Juan Williams, a 10-year NPR news employee, because he went on Bill O'Reilly and told the truth. That truth is that when he gets on a plane and there are Muslims dressed in Muslim garb he becomes a little uncomfortable. He only said what millions of Americans feel. But of course, that's not the Politically Correct thing to say. Are you not sick to death of Political Correctness??

And wham, bam, the hammer came down on Juan. But the real truth is that billionaire George Soros, Obama's checkbook, as far left a progressive liberal as anyone can be, last week donated $1.8 million to NPR. And this week Juan gets axed. Anyone see the collusion? Juan appears on Fox News as a liberal news pundit. Therefore, NPR said bye, bye, Juan.

And the US taxpayer also gives money to NPR, many, many millions, to fund their far left liberal radio stations. The Republicans have many times over the years introduced bills in Congress to "DEFUND" NPR and other taxpayer supported media, like the National Endowment For The Arts. They have consistently been shot down by the Democrats. Let's hope that this time they are successful. With a looming multi-trillion deficit we cannot afford to spend money on anything other than absolute necessities, and NPR doesn't qualify.
