CAN PIGS FLOAT?

Have you ever heard of Hawaii Superferry? Well, in light of the recent news about the Solyndra bankruptcy, I thought you might like to know about another government handout that went swimmingly well, just like Solyndra.

There are two passenger ferries sitting empty at the Lambert’s Point Dock in Norfolk, VA. They were commissioned by a company called Hawaii Superferry. The company received $140 million in federal loan guarantees to pay for these two floating pigs, and then in 2009 defaulted and filed for bankruptcy.

The pork program involved is known as Title XI and has been around since 1936. Its purpose was to promote the growth and modernization of America’s merchant marine industry. Republicans and Democrats have historically used the program to support shipbuilders and owners of all kinds of marine vessels in their districts.

After 129 defaults cost the taxpayer over $2 billion Reagan suspended the program in 1987. It was resurrected by Clinton in 1993 when Title XI was reauthorized. Since reauthorization in 1993 the government has paid out $801 million in defaults on 15 loans it guaranteed. The government was able to recover only $142 million by seizing and selling assets of defaulting companies.

Now it’s 2011 and despite Title XI’s miserable bad-loan record, this year the Obama administration has awarded vessel owners $798 million in new guarantees, the most since 2001. An additional $712 million is currently being reviewed and will likely be approved. I personally like Reagan's 1987 decision - get rid of the program!

The program Administrator, David Matsuda, told a House panel that “the agency hasn’t always assessed risk.” And at times “decisions were made that, well, maybe they weren’t the best.” Well, no kidding!

And here’s what I found in the fine print of the Title XI authorization bill: “Title XI authorizes the U.S. Government to guarantee the repayment of debt obligations, including unpaid interest, of U. S. or foreign ship-owners…..” That’s right, FOREIGN SHIPOWNERS have access to these U. S. taxpayer loan guarantees. Are you upset yet? Disgusted?

The Cato Institute says that despite the massive losses in Title XI, members of Congress with shipbuilders in their districts will “fight to the death for it.”

The two Hawaii Superferry ships? They’re sitting in VA hoping the U. S. Maritime Administration can sell them for whatever they can get out of them in an attempt to recoup something, anything, for the U. S. taxpayer.

And Obama laments there’s no way to cut spending, we’ll be just fine if everyone “pays their fair share.”

Here are some sobering facts for you.

Under Clinton the national debt went up 547 million dollars per day.

Under Bush the national debt went up 1.6 billion dollars per day.

Under Obama the national debt has gone up 4.1 billion dollars per day.

Obama can make all the excuses he wants, but the facts don't lie.

The deficit is 10 times bigger than when Obama took office. And now he wants Congress to raise the debt level so he can waste more, spend more, on pet pork projects that do nothing to create jobs, but continue to grease the palms of his cronies. And he is DEMANDING an increase in taxes instead of SLASHING his spending habits. Give The Pretender President more, and he will spend more. Sure as heck.

Sure hope the Conservatives we elected in 2010 stand firm until we can send them back up troops in 2012.

BRUTE FORCE - THE WHITE HOUSE MUZZLES POLITICAL DISSENTERS

OBAMA CUTS 'EM OFF AT THE KNEES! I didn't think it could get any worse, but here it is.

Yesterday Obama signed an Executive Order that seeks to single handedly accomplish what Congress has refused to do. Congress again is inconsequential to King Obama. This is an absolute abuse of the power Obama has as president. Even Politico, not a Conservative organization, questions Obama's motive behind this action stating it will "compel disclosure of ...campaign contributions" that financed "ads against Democrats during the 2010 elections."

What the EO does is mandate that all businesses seeking to contract with the federal government first disclose their political contributions. It doesn't stop with the business itself. It applies to the political spending of all officers and directors as well. In a nutshell, the EO is an attempt to use executive power to punish or silence political adversaries, while rewarding supporters.

Of course, the EO does not apply to Democrat-allied groups that receive grants and assistance from the federal government, such as Planned Parenthood; nor does it apply to any Unions, which bankroll so many Democratic campaigns and which have bragged about their spending power having helped elect BO. They believe they are the King of the Hill due to the millions they spend on Democrat campaigns. "We're the big dog," states Larry Scanlon, head of the AFSCME (government employees' union). Oh, and don't forget, Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO leader, is the most frequent visitor to the White House. His union and every union is exempt from this outrageous EO.

BO and his Czars say it's all about "disclosure." They'll drag out any nice sounding words to justify another power grab. But this is not about disclosure. If it were the EO would include every group contributing any dollars to political campaigns. It is all about INTIMIDATION.

While the nation reels from a crashing economy and crushing debt, gas price approaching $5 per gallon, the political earthquake in the Middle East, our involvement in three wars, (didn't BO say he'd end Iraq and Afghanistan and bring our troops home? But now he sends us to Libya with no approval of Congress), unemployment at record highs, a housing industry destroyed by the power-broker crooks in Washington, S & P downgrading the U. S. credit rating, with all of this going on BO finds time to conjure up ways to hurt his political "enemies," as he characterizes them.

BO believes determining one's political leanings is a prerequisite for determining the qualifications of of any company wanting to do business with the government. Political contributions will absolutely be used by this crooked, corrupt administration in determining whether or not a company is awarded very lucrative federal contracts.

As evidenced in Wisconsin last month, public disclosure of campaign contributions will lead to boycotts of businesses, death threats, intimidation and dissension. You all watched as the unions vandalized the Capital, wrote threatening letters to businesses, and made State Senators fearful for their own safety. Historically similar efforts to punish companies for their political views are spread like debris through the political landscape.

So now American businesses have to make a choice. Do I support the party in power in hopes that I can continue my livelihood, or do I support the candidate I believe will do the best job? And lest you think your little business won't have to comply, think again. The EO includes everyone from the zipper maker for military uniforms, to the daycare facility operator for federal workplaces, to landscapers who service national parks, to food vendors for all federal buildings, to newspaper/magazine vendors in federal buildings, basically any company wanting to do business with the feds. Do you get it yet?? Pony up for the party in the White House or risk paying the price, meaning no contracts, no jobs. Slimy, slimy, slimy.

Obama's only purpose with this EO is to stifle political speech to further his chances to win reelection. He has no respect for the Constitution and Free Speech. He has no respect for the Supreme Court which already issued an opinion on campaign contributions. In fact, he blasted the Supreme Court last year during the State of the Union address for their support of the First Amendment. The Supreme Court has spoken. To Obama it means nothing. He is using the Executive Order power of the presidency to render the Supreme Court worthless, just as he has rendered Congress worthless.

To any Obama supporters who might be left, ask yourself, are you better off than you were two years ago? Honestly, are you happy with what you've seen for two years? You have cast one vote that is destroying the greatest nation on earth. If you cast another one in 2012 then you have no one but yourself to blame for the total demise of America. I hope you are all smarter than you were in 2010 and don't fall for the empty promises, the lies, the fraud, graft, deceit and corruption that is hunkering down in the White House.

And yes, yes, I know, there are crooks in both parties. You are correct about that. But never before has a president completely usurped the power of the Judicial branch and the Legislative branch like Obama has. Never before have we had a president who believes he is above the Constitution, the Supreme Court and Congress. God help us.

GOD'S IN THE WHITE HOUSE - POWER GRAB EXTRAORDINARE!

In 1996 the Defense of Marriage Act was passed by the House 342-67 and the Senate 85-14 and was signed into law by Bill Clinton. Pretty unanimous, wouldn't you say? It's called DOMA, and it prevents the federal government from recognizing the validity of same-sex marriages. It means that states do not have to recognize custody, alimony and marriage laws made in other states that involve same-sex marriages. DOMA defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman. I tell you this only so that you know what DOMA says. It has been a federal law enforced by the Department of Justice since 1996. Until Yesterday.

Yesterday The Ruler-in-Chief Obama decided that he believes DOMA is unconstitutional, and he ordered his Justice Department to cease enforcing it. WOW, THINK ABOUT IT, PEOPLE. One man just ruled that a law passed unanimously by OUR CONGRESS, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and therefore won't be enforced. Well Pardon Me, but who appointed Obama GOD?

So forget that the so-called "unconstitutional" bill is DOMA. It doesn't make any difference what it is. Congress and the American people just lost another chunk of liberty and our Constitution just got crapped on again.

So this is what I am going to propose. In 2012 Let's elect Sarah Palin, who is universally hated by the progressive left leaning loons. That should make then apoplectic. But then, let's have President Palin declare lots of things unconstitutional and let's have her give her DOJ instructions to cease enforcing them. For instance, Obamacare? Gone, unconstitutional. Roe vs. Wade? Gone, unconstitutional. Immigration laws? See Ya, unconstitutional. Federal Labor Laws? Bye, bye, unconstitutional. The Help America Vote Act? Ooops, you don't get to vote anymore, gone, unconstitutional. No Child Left Behind? So long, Don't need it. Tax Increase Act of 2005? Don't believe in tax increases, so it's gone, unconstitutional. The Stimulus Act, the Housing Recovery Act, Omnibus Act? All spending bills, don't believe in more spending, gone, unconstitutional. Oh, and the Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell? Well, the military doesn't particularly like it so it too is gone, don't enforce it, it's unconstitutional. And on and on and on.

Do you see how outrageous Obama's declaration about DOMA is? Especially in light of his campaign and recent statements that he believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He knows he's in deep trouble in 2012. In desperation he's pandering to any group he can. This is a pure political play. He's a man with no principles, no ethics, who will do and say anything he needs to for political reasons. And he sits in OUR WHITE HOUSE. I hope all you Hope and Changers who voted for this Puppet of the Left are happy with what you got for your vote.

But it doesn't matter what bill God Obama chose to declare unconstitutional. He does not have the power to declare ANYTHING unconstitutional. THAT'S UP TO OUR COURT SYSTEM, MR. OBAMA! Don't you believe in the power of our three branches of government??? Or are you SO totally ignorant of American history that you don't even realize we have three branches of government?

It's just one more theft of power from Congress and the American people. Weep deeply, Folks, this is a big deal.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT?

OUT GO THE LIGHTS! That's what could happen to America if we fail to get our fiscal house in order. Consequences, there are surely dire consequences for not doing so and continuing along the spending path to certain ruin. And along comes the first big decision the new members of Congress will have to make: To raise the Debt Limit, or Not to raise the Debt Limit.


For those of you who are not into spending more than you earn, here's a short explanation of "The Debt Limit." Congress sets a dollar amount, called The Debt Limit, and the government cannot spend more than the Debt Limit amount set by Congress. When the government commits to MORE DEBT than the amount Congress has set, the President trots on over the Congress and asks, pretty please, will you raise the Debt Limit so we can continue to pay our bills and operate - in short, so we can continue to spend money we don't have.

A history lesson, the Debt Limit has been raised 11 times since 1996. Many of those raises were accompanied by promised spending cuts that never materialized. Same old government spenders, promise anything to get what they want. Same game, different players. Don't you believe one word of any promise to cut spending. It won't happen unless they are forced - and that means DON'T RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT, NO WAY, NO HOW.

And now here we are, Obama wants the Debt Limit raised so the government can continue to fund things like turtle tunnels, studying Chinese prostitutes, sidewalks to nowhere, the purchase of electric golf carts for rich golfers, funds for the National Endowment for the Arts so they can display more pornographic so-called art works, studying why Africans don't vote, money to develop a joke machine, studying how monkeys react to cocaine, the genetic makeup of ants; oh, doesn't it just give you warm fuzzies when you think of all the worthwhile things YOUR money goes for??? And Obama wants more of IT from YOU. He wants Congress to RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT so he can spend more.

But guess what? Obama was AGAINST raising the Debt Limit before he was FOR raising the Debt Limit. In 2006 Obama opposed any Debt Limit increase saying the following: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means the 'the buck stops here.' Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit." These are Obama's exact words. Talk about two-faced hypocrisy, he's the King Cobra of the Washington snake pit. If America had a "debt problem" in 2006 what does he think the "debt problem" is now? Leadership failure?? Seems to be describing himself.

You will hear the Dems screaming about what will happen if the Debt Limit is not raised, Armageddon is on the horizon, America will be in default, blah, blah, blah. But you need to know that in 1995 a government shutdown did not cause a stock market crash, and it did not create widespread catastrophe and panic and the end of life as we know it, and the world won't spin off its axis in 2011 in spite of what Obama and his czars want us to believe. Everything is a panic with them. Do it or the world ends. Oh, my gosh!

So now I need to ask, is it wishful thinking to hope for the "change" that the Conservatives promised us in the last election? We spoke loudly and clearly and sent about 75 new people to Washington. We said QUIT SPENDING! AND WE MEANT IT. And now, Folks, they better listen to us. Or they too will be replaced. 2012 is almost here.

RUSSIA SAYS, OH, YES, YOU WILL!!

The traitors in Washington, including the Obamanuts, the Republican Rats and the Democratic Dolts, have now passed the START treaty. The Treaty is allegedly a nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia. Anyone who voted for this should be removed from Congress/White House immediately, bit it ain't gonna happen until 2012. Their job is to ensure our national security. The START treaty does the opposite. Here is only one of the threats contained in the treaty. Google the START Treaty to read about many more.

In the PREAMBLE to the START treaty there is language that links the U.S. ability to build a missile DEFENSE system with a required reduction of nuclear offensive weapons. The key word here is DEFENSE. A defensive system is designed to prevent missiles (which can now be sent from basically anywhere) from arriving on our shores. It is designed to DEFEND us. It is not an OFFENSIVE WEAPON, meaning it isn't something you use to shoot someone or something unprovoked. It's not a go-to-war-system. It's a protect-us system.

Remember now, the PREAMBLE to the START treaty says we cannot defend ourselves in this fashion. It says, basically, that missile DEFENSIVE system production is LINKED to OFFENSIVE missile reduction. In other words, America, no can do! Can't build a defensive system - oh, woo hoo, bring on the nuclear weapons, here we sit just waiting for them. But they won't come from Russia. They will come from some rogue country hell bent on destroying what's left of us. The START Treaty is with RUSSIA ONLY!! Do you get it, folks? It does NOT affect what all other countries in the world can do except Russia and the U.S. All other nuclear countries can go merrily on their way to develop and deploy what ever the heck they want, aimed directly at the U.S. That means Korea, Pakistan, India, China, Iran, and any other nuclear armed country. And it does NOT matter if a nuclear country is our ally at this moment in history. Allies quickly can become enemies. In the meantime, because of the START Treaty, we become sittin' ducks. We can't build a DEFENSE SYSTEM. And we've NEVER been able to TRUST the RUSSIANS, treaty or no treaty!

But wait, it gets really good now. It has been Obama and the Dems' position that the PREAMBLE language of this treaty isn't enforceable, doesn't mean anything, and oh, just ignore what it says. It's in the PREAMBLE, but oh, well, we don't need to comply with that section. This is what Obama and the Dems were plastering all over TV and stated in their arm twisting meetings with Senators the week before Christmas prior to the Senate vote on the treaty. And God help us, he sucked in enough Senators to pass it. Even with more than 30 defense or foreign policy government officials and related experts sending a letter to the Senate last Monday expressing their "professional judgment" that the Obama START treaty "is not consistent with the national security interests of the United States" and "should be rejected by the U.S. Senate." Well, congratulations to the most illiterate Congress ever! They passed it anyway.

But the truth came out on Dec. 23 when the Russian run media stated that the missile defense provisions in the PREAMBLE are "legally binding." In fact, Russia now says that it will pull out of the treaty if the U.S. proceeds with any missile defense program. So while Obama and Dem John Kerry and others are shooting off their mouths that this is "a component of the treaty that has no legal, binding impact whatsoever," Moscow obviously has a very different view of the Preamble.

START has been ratified and we are now defenseless and will remain that way! Well, let's party! Let's whoop it up and celebrate. Russian and U.S. nuclear arms will be reduced. Remember the white missile contrail seen off the California coast a few months ago? Well, the next one could be the "real deal." And the U.S. can't defend herself from non-Russian nuclear arms, and aren't we all better off now!

Who would have thought that a Communist Kenyan/Indonesian with no roots in any country would sit in our White House and sell out the greatest nation in the world? Obamamama is not negotiating....he's getting slapped, mugged and robbed by Putin while the whole world watches. Nobody on the world stage has played Obama for a fool more than Putin. Russia has given up little or nothing in every single negotiation Russia has had with Obama on a whole bunch of issues.

Read American history, People. Anything that includes the words legal and Russian in the same subject matter can't possibly be taken seriously. The only crime ring bigger and badder than the Russians is the Democrat Party and Republican RINO's.

Find out how your representatives voted on START (there are links in this blog), and then remember it when the 2012 election gives us another chance to restore more sanity to Washington. We got a good start in 2010. Let's not stop now.

BEHOLD, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

GOP Rep. Buyer of Indiana (retiring from Congress) is frustrated with business-as-usual in the House and blasts the acting Democrat Speaker. This is the moronic behavior that is a daily occurrence in our so called House of Representatives. The brainless Pelosi-stand-in at the podium can't speak a word on her own. Rep Buyer says it all when he tells her "This is why the People have thrown you out."

If we could legislate intelligence and outlaw ignorance Washington would be a ghost town. Everyone would either be in jail or out of office.

This is the past 4 years wrapped up in a 3 minute video. Just in case you forgot, the Dems have been in control of Congress, both House and Senate, since 2007.

And to think that we pay these imbeciles to do this! Keep your scorecards ready for 2012.

PELOSI THROWS "ACCOMPLISHMENTS" BASH - CONGRESSMEN NOT INVITED, THANK YOU!

On Wed. afternoon Witch Nancy threw a big bash celebrating the "accomplishments of the 11th Congress." It was held in the Cannon Caucus Room (We, The People, own that real estate), it was closed to the press, a curtain was hung over the open doorway so no one could see into the "party" room, and the invited guests were "advocacy groups." Politico asked who paid for the party, and the Pelosi camp refused to disclose the funders of the bash.

As reported on Bill O'Reilly tonight, there were no Congressmen or women invited. Only "ADVOCACY GROUPS." Call it what you want, but I call it PAY OFF IN A BIG WAY.

Since the party was held during work hours in a room owned by The Public, it seems reasonable that Nancy's employer (that's us) should be able to find out who paid for the event.

Hmmmmm, let's see - who could it have been? the TIDES Foundation? The Open Society Institute, ACORN, The Apollo Group, Think Progress, Factcheck, Snopes, GE, Google, Center for American Progress, AARP, AIG, GM, Chrysler, SEIU, George Soros? Oh, silly me - they're all "advocacy groups," basically one and the same.

And what are they celebrating? Only the most significant election loss in over 60 years!

And just last month it was the Demonuts who were ranting and raving about the "monetary influence of anonymous outside groups," namely the U. S. Chamber of Commerce.

What a two-faced double standard. And so much for "draining the swamp" and presiding over the "most transparent Congress" ever.

To the Californians who sent Pelosi back to Washington? Don't you dare come begging for a taxpayer bailout of the miserable financial condition your state is in. You continually get into bed with progressive socialists, you've made your bed time and time again, and now you can lay in it. You elect the same pathetic, worthless clowns and you get what you vote for.

JUST DON'T EXPECT THE REST OF US TO BAIL YOU OUT!
