Why didn't Michelle invite me too? She invited 40 some friends along for a five-day trip to a luxury resort in Spain, and since my tax dollars paid for most of the trip I think I should have been able to go along.
Her entourage stayed at a Ritz-Carlton resort in the mountains outside Marbella occupying 60-70 rooms with rates starting at $400 and rising to $6500, yes, that's per night. According to CBS News the tax dollar portion of the vacation included approximately $146,000 round-trip cost for Air Force two, not counting ground time; about $95,000 in hotel costs for an estimated 70 security personnel (Secret Service and military, who get a $273-a-day government per diem); plus costs for the dozen or so cars in her motorcade, plus costs for meals, fuel for the cars, incidentals, etc. Three shifts of agents were needed for a trip of this magnitude. And the White House won't disclose the total cost to the taxpayer. Must be CLASSIFIED INFORMATION, I guess.
So where is the austerity they try to impose on us? Last month Michelle stated that parents "looking for things to do with their kids...Florida is a wonderful place to visit." So why didn't she take her kids to Florida, or the Gulf, where tourism is suffering tremendously, where the people would have been ever so grateful, where she urged us to vacation? The tax dollars spent in Spain may have provided a job or two to Gulf residents who are out of work due to the embargo on oil drilling in the Gulf, thanks to her husband. Oh, but I'm sorry, Florida and the Gulf aren't good enough for Queen Michelle.
Mr. Obama has urged frugality in lean economic times by cautioning families not to "blow a bunch of cash in Vegas." While most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing summer travels, or foregoing them altogether, the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. The Material Girl and King Obama are elites, woefully out of touch with struggling unemployed American families.
What the Obamas do with their money is their business - but what they do with OURS is our business. And we as a country are out of money.
I can hardly wait until November 2010 and 2012 and onward from there!
Let me hear from you with your opinions and thoughts on whether or not you would like to have been invited along, since you also paid for it.
